Description 1: English Students.
My helper teacher teaches from 1st. grade to 8th grade, the last one, needs much hard work, she must offer them different strategies, activities and motivation, according their students story, they have had several English teachers. During this year, she has had to change activities, incluiding time (some students learn slower than others).
At the beginning, they did'nt like her English classes, and their parents hadn't understood why she speaked English the entire class. It was a big surprise for her. They get and do each activity from English books that are in the classroom, English dictionaries, and they have several pictures with information about topics, or grammar on the English classroom walls, she has not tried to use memorize method with them, in order that they don't feel afraid. Besides, most of the students are shy so they don't like speaking activities.
Nowdays, she is sure, they know and understand much more English.
Analysis:
It is the description of an average class in Chile. Most of students are not willing to learn English and they do not understand English. This teacher tried to apply listening to their classes by speaking English the entire class. It means that she use the communicative orientation that is focused on understanding the language, but she also teach grammar, and she does not like to use repetition like some methods of communicational orientation use.
Description 2: A learner that is the best or the worst learning English.
Few learners are successful learning English, the most succesful activities are solving puzzles, matching, scramble words, put in order some sentences, listening, so on. Moreover, in her school, there isn't internet, and she thinks it is an important media to teach English.
Analysis:
This description does not contain much details but I can say that most of students in Chile are not used to speaking in English or to participate actively in the classes, however there are few students that are motivated for some reason like their passion for Anglo music, American TV series or because their teachers make them to fell motivated, and so on.
